FAQ
Frequently asked Questions
How do I choose the length of the drapery panel rods?
The rod should be longer than the width of the window in order to let in more light shine thru. It will also give the impression of a larger opening. Installing the rods 4 inches above the window or closer to the ceiling will give the illusion of higher ceiling. Allow 4” to 10” beyond each side of the window frame to reduce the light gaps on the side and maximize privacy.
Should I choose grommets or pleats for my curtain panel heading?
It is really a matter of personal taste - the drapery panel comes either with French pleats or grommets.
French pleats: - also called pinch pleat - is the most traditional style available. Please watch the video on how to form the pleats yourself, or see instruction on the PDF file.
When choosing pleats, small width (54”) panels require 5 to 7 hooks. Large width panels require 10 to 14 hooks
Grommets are a more casual option typically found on drapery panels from brands such as Thevenon or Artiga . Lelievre and Jean Paul Gaultier drapery panels can be very sophisticated and fashionable when mounted on grommets. With these metal eyelets (grommets) applied to the top of each panel you will not need drapery rings and they are designed to move smoothly along any drapery rod. Be creative – the choice is yours!
Which size panel should I choose?
No guess work/no hassle required- These, in stock, ready-to-hang panels come in standard widths of 50” to 112” wide and lengths up to 118” long. These dimensions are ideal for the vast majority of common, basic single and double-double hung windows.
The French pleated panel comes in 2 widths: small (50” wide x 118” long) and large (110” wide x 118” long)
If you are using a rod between 36” to 92”, you should use 2 small panels (50” wide) or 1 large panel (108” wide)
If you are using a rod between 92” to 160” wide, you will need 2 large panels (108” wide)
The fullness of the panel will vary according to the thickness of the fabric and the heading you will use.
How long should I hem and how to do the hem?
Hem can be done by your local tailor, seamstress, or if you have a sewing machine, by yourself. Most panels are lined.
Usually the panel comes 118” long, which will allow you to puddle the panel on the floor if you want this look.
Let creativity and taste be your guide:
Hem the panel ½’ shorter than your floor: That will give a tailored look
Hem the panel ½’ longer: this is the most standard hem. It will give just enough fabric to puddle on the floor.
Hem the panel 5” to 8” longer than the floor: the extra fabric will fan out onto the floor. That will give a more sophisticated look on the French pleated panels
Hem the panel more than 10” longer than the floor: This hem is appropriate for heavy fabric and will give a very lush décors to your room.
